The maiden voyage…

boys with fish
What a feeling it was to see my brand new 2400 Kevlacat being lifted off the truck in Ingham last Thursday; talk about being excited!

I wasted no time and that afternoon headed straight out to check out a few old fishing marks. Along for the ride was my brother and deckie Brad and our mate from the Sunshine Coast “Whitey”. Conditions were great and the boat handled amazing; everything I expected and more. Top speed was 40 knots and cruising speed was 27knots. We fished my first area about 13 nm off Lucinda and what a session it was.

Not having had an offshore boat for quite a few months I wasn’t sure what to expect, as I pulled up on the mark the Furuno sounder lit up like a Christmas tree; I knew this was going to be a good session and the Nannygai were there and in good numbers… first drop the boys got a double hook up on 5kg fish after a few drifts and a few more fish I put the anchor over and we enjoyed the next hour, pulling up Nannygai, Sweetlip, Cod and Emperor as well as a few laughs.

With plenty to take home for a feed, we headed back to Lucinda. Most fish averaged around the 4 to 6 kg mark with some a bit bigger. It was a great first trip and very successful.

With a boat of this quality I can’t wait to be taking guests out for a days fishing. Whitey at the end of the day: “I haven’t fished like that for 10 years”!
