The fishing over the last month has just been unbelievable with the Nannygai and Red Emperor just chewing their heads off.
I took Ken and 2 mates out from the Gold Coast and the fishing was fantastic; the boys landed half a dozen good Emperor, with a few Scotty Hillier DH’s in the middle. Mixed in with them were some quality Large Mouth Nannygai and some monster Trevally for a bit of fun. At one stage Ken asked if we could throw a few soft plastics - on my first cast of showing Ken how to do it in 50m of water I hooked a 2.5kg Coral Trout then Ken had a go and missed a beauty. His mate Crash had a go and landed a 3kg Trout all in the space of 5 minutes and on the same spot we had caught all the other fish. Be sure to check out the video that will be on the website soon. Ken quoted that in all his 15 years on the water it was the best Reef Charter he had ever done.
Just recently I had Steve and Ben from BCF Australia and Nicole from QFM out for a day. We found a patch of bait enroute to our first spot, threw out a few pushers and had some fun with Macktuna. We then arrived on spot X and I asked the boys to have a drop while I work out the drift before anchoring. First baits to the bottom we had a double hookup of big Largemouth Nannygai; great start!
I then anchored and the fishing was red hot, it was that good we started to play around catching a few nannygai on lunch ham (no joke!). Then we dropped a few plastics for big Trevally and Nannygai and caught the lot, it was now only 1100am so I suggested we go and throw a few poppers around the reef, second cast and Steve landed one around the 50 to 60 old fashioned pounds, then Ben landed one around the 30 pound mark, in 45minutes we had 8 strikes for 4 fish in the boat and one hell of a day. We were back at the ramp around 2.30pm.
