The Experience Trip Reports |

|
 |
What a month it has been out on the water. The weather has been great and the fishing as good as I have experienced in a long while. For the month we boated 18 Red Emperor, 13 of which were legal, and heaps of big Nannygai, Jobfish, Trout, Sweetlip and some monster Cobia: on one trip alone we hooked 6 and landed 4 all around the 15kg to 25kg mark.

A couple of charters that spring to mind was Bob, Deb and their son Ryan from Sydney, who had not caught a good fish for a long time. Well what a day they had! Bob landed two Gold Spot Cod, one going 15kg and the other went 27kg. The big fella was released unharmed and the smaller one into the ice box as they do eat really well. Young Ryan had been busted off throughout the day on some big fish but was rewarded with an 11kg Large Mouth Nannygai. But the fisher of the day went to Deb; whilst Bob was locked in battle with his big Cod and all eyes were on him, Deb let out an almighty scream that she too was on, and after a well played out battle she landed a 12kg Red Emperor. Another good sized Emperor was boated not long after along with plenty of other Large Mouth Nannygai. The beauty of this trip was we fished nothing deeper than 30 meters of water and a mere 20 minute boat ride back to Lucinda.

Another trip was with the Zatta clan and for some of these men it was 4 years since they had been to the reef, and for the only son on board Luke, it was his first ever trip to the reef. We stopped after a 25 minute trip from Lucinda onto some rubble that has been fishing well of late and Luke stepped up; I knew there were good fish below and after reaching the bottom and waiting around 5 seconds he was locked into a good fish. After some coaching he had landed an 8kg Large Mouth Nannygai. I then found a new rock which was covered in life about 3 mile from this one; the 3 men dropped and what amazed me was that before 2 of them could get the bail arm over on the big Shimano Stella’s they were having line ripped from their reels. It was an awesome sight; this happened for the next 4 drifts as we took 7 Large Mouth nannygai up to 9kg in size. We then moved out a bit wider and anchored on a hot little rock; the highlight of this stop was the 3 men Gino, Remmo and Albert all locked in battle with legal Emperor. The biggest went to Gino at 10kg with the other 2 around the 5kg mark. A few nice Nannygai were also boated then to top off the day Gino landed a 22kg Cobia; we had 2 on at once and they had tangled their lines so the biggest fish won the battle.
SO to say the fishing has been good is a huge understatement, hopefully you can join me and experience some of the same some time soon.
Scotty
