The Location

The coastal town of Lucinda is a springboard to Tropical North Queensland’s best fishing, natural attractions and tourist adventures.

Just 20 minutes by boat from the Great Barrier Reef – one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World – Lucinda is the nearest mainland access point to the world famous Hinchinbrook Channel.

It’s just a short trip to the region’s main city centres, with Townsville little more than an hour’s drive away and Cairns around two-and-a-half.

Lucinda is also on the doorstep of Wet Tropics World-Heritage listed rainforests, half a dozen National Parks, spectacular waterfalls like Wallaman Falls (Australia’s largest sheer drop at 305 metres), gorgeous tropical island resorts and iconic outback drives.

Lucinda’s prime location makes fishing here an angler’s dream. No matter which way the wind’s blowing, there are always plenty of sheltered spots to get down to business.

The offshore waters around the Reef are a rich habitat for species including coral trout, red emperor, nannygai, cobia and sweetlip. The area’s also perfect for trolling for powerful pelagics such as wahoo, mackerel, dolphin fish and marlin. In such pristine waters, you can see a giant trevally coming even before it slams at your lure.

Inshore, shoal fishing targets are large trophy-quality nannygai, red emporer, cod and coral trout.

And the Hinchinbrook Channel’s saltwater mangroves are home to barramundi, mangrove jack, fingermark, queen fish, and of course, the famed Queensland mudcrab.
